2008
Nailcote's own Mark Mouland brought the glory home at the 75th anniversary, Numark British Par 3 championship on Wednesday, winning the event by two shots from European Tour star, Lee Slattery. Just one shot further back were local favourite Tom Whitehouse, European Tour colleague, Phil Golding and regional professionals Richard O'Hanlon and Jason Powell.

Despite a bogey 4 on the final hole which left Slattery needing a hole-in-one to make a play off with Mouland, the partisan crown watching were nearly silenced as Slattery proceeded to hit the flagstick in his attempt - but the ball didn't drop into the hole.

A clearly relieved and very happy Mouland was delighted to receive the winner's trophy from Tony Jacklin together with a wheelbarrow filled with £5,000 in one pound coins and a Methuselah of Moët & Chandon Champagne.

In the better ball pairs event, Tom Whitehouse and Eliott Cook scored 14 under par winning on a countback from Simon Lilly and Walter Goonewardene. Mark Mouland and 12 year old Charley Hull were also in on 14 under par, but in 3rd place on the countback and ruing Mark's last hole bogey that cost them a double celebration.

Par 3 golf courses2006
The 2006 Championship celebrated the 60th Anniversary in professional golf of two times Ryder Cup captain Bernard Hunt and the competition that followed was special indeed. With the strongest field ever, including 18 European Tour professionals such as Jarrod Moseley from Australia and Steve Scahill from New Zealand, the competition was fierce. After 36 holes rising European Tour Stars Tom Whitehouse and Shaun P Webster tied at 7 under par and after a birdie 2 on the 7th hole Shaun P Webster was crowned Champion.

Par 3 golf coursesShaun Webster - Captured English Amateur Championship in 1996 and turned professional two years later, with financial aid from 18 businessmen who chipped in £1000 each. Missed card at Qualifying School in 1999 after being penalised two shots and fined £500 for slow play. Returned in 2000, just weeks after dropping from 14th to 17th in the last event on the Challenge Tour. Gained 23rd card but was unable to retain his Tour playing rights. Played both Challenge Tour and The European Tour in 2002 but required a return to the Qualifying School to regain his playing rights which he did by finishing 20th. Another visit to the Qualifying School in 2005 saw him finish sixth and set up another shot at glory on The 2006 European Tour. Won the British Par 3 Championship after a sudden death play off with Tom Whitehouse who had also completed the event at 7 under par. Produced a great finish to the Challenge Tour season with 2 successive 2nd places to regain his European Tour car finishing 11th on The Challenge Tour Order of Merit.

2001

2001 was a very special year celebrating the late Max Faulkner's 50th anniversary of winning the Open Championship and the Championship lived up to the special occasion in every way. Ultimately the title went to Midlands' star Robert Rock who won with a 4 under par score of 104, but only after a really exciting three man play off.

Robert Rock - A real up and coming star, Robert has been a top player in the Midlands for several years and won the Championship with a 4 under par total after a three man play off. Subsequently he has qualified to play on the European Tour and is sure to make a real impact during the 2006 season.

The Short Course Championship - 2000 2000
The 2000 event produced the first play-off when Jeremy Robinson, from the European Tour, defeated Brian Rimmer on the first extra hole after they had tied with a score of 4 under par.

Jeremy Robinson - Lost card in 1995 after 4 years on tour but regained his place at the 1998 qualifying school. Has achieved 5 European Challenge Tour victories, including the Kenya and Zambia Opens. As an amateur he played in the Walker Cup team in 1987. Achieved a best finish in the 1999 season with a 6th place at the Benson & Hedges International Open. In his second Short Course appearance, Jeremy won with a 4 under par score of 104.

The Short Course Championship - 1999

1999
In 1999 the championship was honoured by 1951 Open Champion Max Faulkner and twice Ryder Cup captain Bernard Hunt. A thrilling competition was ultimately won by European Tour star Carl Mason thanks in no small measure to a stunning course record of a 6 under par 21 in the third round.

Carl Mason - A consistent Tour player since turning professional in 1973, Carl had a succession of second places in European Tour events before finally clinching his elusive first win in the Tour Espana in 1994, following it soon after with another at the Bell's Scottish Open. Carl represented England in both the Hennessy Cognac Cup and World Cup in 1980. Winner of the Short Course title in 1999, stunning everyone with his course record round - a 6 under par 21 and a final winning total of 101. Now the most consistent player on the European Seniors Tour and winner of the opening tournament of 2004. Par 3 golf courses.

The Short Course Championship - 19981998
In 1998 it was fitting that a past Ryder Cup star Peter Baker should be the first winner in the new era. For those who delight in the finesse and art of shot making in golf, rather than the power driving of the modern age, the British Professional Short Course Championship is a welcome challenge of golfing skill.

Peter Baker - Taught by the late Alex Lyle, father of Sandy. Inspired by meeting with Seve Ballesteros on trip to La Manga when aged 14. Outstanding amateur, played in the Walker Cup in 1985 before going on to win Ryder Cup honours as a professional eight years later, beating Corey Pavin in the singles on his way to earning three points out of four at The De Vere Belfry in 1993. At the first Short Course Championship in 25 years, Peter won with a score of 105, 3 under par. Vice Captain to Ian Woosnam on the record equalling Ryder Cup team at the K Club in 2006.

The Short Course Championship - History

1933
The British Professional Short Course Championship has been steeped in the history of the game since it was first hosted at Torquay's Palace Hotel in 1933. The inaugural championship was graced by some of the all time great players, including many past Open champions, Alex Herd, Alf Padgham, Ted Ray, JH Taylor and Harry Vardon. Peter Allis's father, Percy played in the event, as did Henry Cotton in later years and many other Ryder Cup players including Abe Mitchell, the personal tutor of Samuel Ryder, who is figured on top of the Ryder Cup Trophy.
